friday night i went to weight watchers and then to FUV to answer phones and donate time to the fund drive.
saturday, i got up and relaxed and walked and went to the store and decided that i needed to write thank you letters to the interview people and then i was heading to Westport CT to see John Gorka. I had free FUV tickets but it cost me to get there, gas and EZPass. when i got there, i felt grossly out of place. There werent too many jews there and lots of kahki pants, expensive shoes and the shops where PRADA, GUGGI, Tiffany, Armani, furs... westport is as waspy as greenwich only newer money and lots of NEWMAN related things.
i loved the show, it was David Francey opening and John Gorka. I havent seen him since before his newest record 2003 so i missed him. HIs voice is beautiful and he is soo entertaining even though i have seen his shtick 20 times or more. I love watching him and his faces. I had a great time and drove home while listening to Vin Scelsa on FUV
i got to be about 1am and had to get up at 6am to go to my volunteer assignment at TFF. i had to be there at 9am and the Q isnt running only with shuttle buses so i had to take the F. as it was, i was a little early so i got coffee at dunkin donuts.
My first movie was a documentary called - when i came home When_I_Came_Home
it was about iraqui vets- three of them who are homeless after serving their country. TWo of the vets where there. I found the documentary very uncomfortable and maybe that was good. I was anxious. my anxiety about homelessness was heightened as i dont have a job right now and even though there is no chance of being homeless this documentary triggered off some personal issues for me.
the second was a narrative film called The treatment based on new yorker stories and a book by Daniel Menaker
the treatment
it was a romantic comedy by a skillful director. it will be bought i believe and shown in theaters, like Squid and WHALE
the last show of the day was a spoof on 70s horror movies called The hatchet by film maker Adam Green. THE HATCHET
Its a very funny spoof on all the horror movies of the 70s including Mercedes McNab of Buffy in the cast. it was exaggerated but a quality movie, not usually my genre but it broke up the day.
each of the TFF movies attract different audiences.
the 10am crowd was a documentary crowd
the treatment, lots of psychotherapists and older NYers
the hatchet, young marilyn mansion gothic and young film makers
the anti thesis of SAW Horror crowd.
tomorrow two more movies......

update on my life
i was scheduled to have an interview on friday morning and it got switched to thursday afternoon before school. i called and changed my hairdresser appointment to wednesday rather than thursday so i could look my better self for this interview..
so wednesday i went to get my hair done and then my first shift at TFF. i got home at 2am and went to sleep about 3am. i got up about 9 and my phone rang about 1030..the person scheduling the interview wanted to move it to 230. so i agreed.
then my phone rang again...someone on the other end...stuttered, mmmmhmmm goldberg... i said yes... she said Mr Goldberg, i said no Ms, sharon goldberg. she said she was looking for sarah goldberg and i told her she had a wrong number. I looked at the caller ID and it was my sister in law Carleen Homand and her number..
with all the goldbergs in the brooklyn phonebook, any goldberg wrong number was a wrong number,i didnt think anything of it til it hit me that my grandmothers name was sarah goldberg. i called my mom and my brother was at her house and he asked me to check his wife' s number and when i tried to retrieve it, i couldnt find it. It was not in my caller ID. the last number that was recorded was the rescheduling of the interview. freakier things have happened in my family..
i called my mom and told her and she said my brother was freaked out.
my family has a history of thinking that separate members have seen this shadowy figure in the house i grew up, the one where my grandmother died. It is just explained that the shadowy figure is my grandmother who didnt make it over to the other side. my mother also believes that if you dream of a dead family member they are sending you a message. YES my sister and mom watch that show about communication from teh other side and catch sylvia brown interviews on larry king..
i went to my interview and i was escorted to the group interview in room 3F. they could have chosen 3A-3I....i remarked...3F is my apartment number... another omen
the interview went well and i was escorted to a lounge where i was presented with a piece of a training to present when they call me to present it. THere are there choices..
this job is a job as Trainer with the City child welfare training academy. There are additional positions as cirriculum writer and supervisor there as well. I made a committment to interviewing for hte position i was called for and explained why i would like the job.
i guess i was successful if they called me back to present.

the gift of time
i was out walking and realized that i have been the gift of time. my days were racewalks, going from home to work to my second job or home to walk and coming in 9pm to shower and eat and go to bed. Like a hamster on wheel, it was the same routine and i was exhausted.
i have been given a gift of time. a gift to wake up when my body is rested. A gift to eat when i am hungry not by the clock. a gift to walk 5 miles every day. A gift to do what i want with my time and not what i have to do. I can stop and talk to anyone for as long as i want to. There are days where i dont have to be anywhere. THere are other days where i have committments and have to be at school or an appointment or somewhere. I have had the gift to add extra volunteer assignments to my schedule. I am free to decide what i want to do and when i want to do it.
i can stay up a little later and not worry that i have to be up at 6am or be able to function. I can stay in bed a little later and totally absorb myself in giving myself what i need.

Capricorn Horoscope for week of April 27, 2006
Capricorn Horoscope for week of April 27, 2006
Verticle Oracle card Capricorn (December 22-January 19)
Here are your magic words for the coming week: spree, frolic, whoopee, carouse, escapade, fiesta, and siesta. Invoke them often as you act out their meanings. And if your research into the altered states they stir up results in complaints from people who'd prefer you to act like a predictable machine, I've written the following excuse note for you to give them: Please forgive Capricorns for departing from their routine behavior, including but not limited to disobeying orders, defying fate, sticking out their tongues, belly-laughing at odd moments, and dancing backwards on the tombstones of evildoers. They are currently under the influence of astrological factors that tend to dissolve inhibitions and awaken dormant joy.

for free... is it worth it
i went to one of the village voice free screenings tonight. The line at the landmark theater was part of the show. I guess these people know each other and know the drill is trying to get someone in on someone's "half" meaning if you are one person on a two person ticket you are a half... and someone will "work" the line to get a half in on your half.... the people like a circus act and there are VIPS who get in first and get then the reservers are on a guest list and then the general public are let in.
I was on a list and jumped the line because i had to go to the bathroom and they let me in early. It was not half full so everyone got in
I guess more popular movies like silent HIll were a mess and a zoo...
i have signed up for Mission Impossible 2 next
lets see where it is and when...
i cant make the thursday ones right now so i have to skip some free movies
was it worth it.. this was pretty painless for a free movie...

gifts are never late
i have found that there are lots of things that are positive, gifts that have been coming my way for just my being me. I guess if you open your eyes to seeing the gifts they are really there.
through the time that i have been home, i have lived the moments whatever they bring and as they occur. I have found that if i ask for things, i generally get them. I have asked if the restroom at Connecticut muffin was really out of service .. when i asked i found out that it was not that i needed a key. when i gave information about the TFF to the membership coordinator at FUV and as i asked her for the "reward" of 1 cd, she reached in her draw and pulled out two special addition cds that she gave me.
i have decided long along that asking either brings the answer YES or NO. i am not afraid of NO and i get more YES answers than NO answers.
i have found that lovely little surprises have come to me when i open myself up and recognize how abundant the world is.
i am also more humble about the gifts i am receiving- i dont assume that gift are there for me. They are granted to me.. i signed on a CORE volunteer before i knew there was a stipend. I offered my time and energy and got a stipend in return. i called and asked about changing my hairdresser appointment and got the appointment changed to a different time, not better but one that is more flexible and allows for me to go to my new interview with new hair.
i guess getting an interview for a training position with ACS is a gift. I am going on thursday at 2pm and not friday at 10. Therefore, i can possibly avoid CMS staff as they are in case conferencs at that time and i can sneak into queens and go on to school afterwards.

Elizabeth 1
I got caught up in the HBO series on Elizabeth. It was an amazing biopic on this outstanding Queen. She may have never married but she was no virgin queen. she took lovers and was flirty but never had intercourse. It shows where love and life and business and the men who loved her had to accept her position and her true love, ruling england. She shows her female side and rules with a heavy hand when she needs to...and its hot..
Elizabeth I from HBO
Emmy®-winner Helen Mirren and Oscar®-winner Jeremy Irons star in Elizabeth I, a two-part HBO Films miniseries event that explores the intersection of the private and public life of Elizabeth I (Mirren) in the latter half of her reign, offering a personal look at her allies, her enemies and her suitors as she struggled to survive in a male-dominated world. Part 1 explores the middle-aged Elizabeth's tempestuous relationship with the Earl of Leicester (Irons) as it survives a French suitor, war, treason, and illness. Part 2 follows Elizabeth through her later years, during which she had an equally passionate affair with the young, ambitious Earl of Essex (Hugh Dancy), who had been raised, ironically, by his stepfather Leicester.
Elizabeth I sheds light on both the personal and public side of England's most enigmatic queen. The daughter of King Henry VIII, Elizabeth I (1533-1603) reunited a nation divided by religious strife, faced down the Spanish Armada and, after an unprecedented 45-year reign, died one of England's best-loved monarchs. During her time as Queen, poets and playwrights wrote about her, artists painted her, and composers dedicated works to her, all contributing to the legend of the "Virgin Queen" who never married. In the public's mind, Elizabeth's romantic life is nearly completely overshadowed by her political achievements and military triumphs. Elizabeth I looks beyond the myth at the woman behind the crown, striking a balance between the queen's desire to find love and passion, and her responsibility to the monarchy.
Helen Mirren has won two Emmy ® Awards (for The Passion of Ayn Rand and Prime Suspect 4: Scent of Darkness); a Golden Globe® Award for Losing Chase; and three BAFTA Awards for her starring role in the series Prime Suspect. Jeremy Irons won an Academy Award® and a Golden Globe® Award for his performance as Claus von Bulow in "Reversal of Fortune." He also received two other Golden Globe® nominations, for "The Mission" and "Brideshead Revisited."
Filmed in Vilnius, Lithuania, Elizabeth I was directed by Tom Hooper, a Best Director Emmy® nominee for Prime Suspect 6: The Last Witness, which also starred Mirren. The film was written by BAFTA-winning screenwriter and acclaimed novelist Nigel Williams (The Wimbledon Poisoner, Bertie and Elizabeth, Uncle Adolf).

Historical overview:
Elizabeth I was born in 1533 to Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. Although she entertained many marriage proposals and flirted incessantly, she never married or had children. Elizabeth, the last of the Tudors, died at seventy years of age after a very successful forty-four year reign.
Elizabeth inherited a tattered realm: dissension between Catholics and Protestants tore at the very foundation of society; the royal treasury had been bled dry by Mary and her advisors, Mary's loss of Calais left England with no continental possessions for the first time since the arrival of the Normans in 1066 and many (mainly Catholics) doubted Elizabeth's claim to the throne. Continental affairs added to the problems - France had a strong footland in Scotland, and Spain, the strongest western nation at the time, posed a threat to the security of the realm. Elizabeth proved most calm and calculating (even though she had a horrendous temper) in her political acumen, employing capable and distinguished men to carrying out royal prerogative.
Her first order of business was to eliminate religious unrest. Elizabeth lacked the fanaticism of her siblings, Edward VI favored Protestant radicalism, Mary I, conservative Catholicism, which enabled her to devise a compromise that, basically, reinstated Henrician reforms. She was, however, compelled to take a stronger Protestant stance for two reasons: the machinations of Mary Queen of Scots and persecution of continental Protestants by the two strongholds of Orthodox Catholicism, Spain and France. The situation with Mary Queen of Scots was most vexing to Elizabeth. Mary, in Elizabeth's custody beginning in 1568 (for her own protection from radical Protestants and disgruntled Scots), gained the loyalty of Catholic factions and instituted several-failed assassination/overthrow plots against her cousin, Elizabeth. After irrefutable evidence of Mary's involvement in such plots came to light, Elizabeth sadly succumbed to the pressure from her advisors and had the Scottish princess executed in 1587.
The persecution of continental Protestants forced Elizabeth into war, a situation which she desperately tried to avoid. She sent an army to aid French Huguenots (Calvinists who had settled in France) after a 1572 massacre wherein over three thousand Huguenots lost their lives. She sent further assistance to Protestant factions on the continent and in Scotland following the emergence of radical Catholic groups and assisted Belgium in their bid to gain independence from Spain. The situation came to head after Elizabeth rejected a marriage proposal from Philip II of Spain; the indignant Spanish King, incensed by English piracy and forays in New World exploration, sent his much-feared Armada to raid England. However, the English won the naval battle handily, due as much to bad weather as to English naval prowess. England emerged as the world's strongest naval power, setting the stage for later English imperial designs.
Elizabeth was a master of political science. She inherited her father's supremacist view of the monarchy, but showed great wisdom by refusing to directly antagonize Parliament. She acquired undying devotion from her advisement council, who were constantly perplexed by her habit of waiting to the last minute to make decisions. She used the varying factions (instead of being used by them, as were her siblings), playing one off another until the exhausted combatants came to her for resolution of their grievances. Few English monarchs enjoyed such political power, while still maintaining the devotion of the whole of English society.
Elizabeth's reign was during one of the more constructive periods in English history. Literature bloomed through the works of Spenser, Marlowe and Shakespeare. Francis Drake and Walter Raleigh were instrumental in expanding English influence in the New World. Elizabeth's religious compromise laid many fears to rest. Fashion and education came to the fore because of Elizabeth's penchant for knowledge, courtly behavior and extravagant dress. Good Queen Bess, as she came to called, maintained a regal air until the day she died; a quote, from a letter by Paul Hentzen, reveals the aging queen's regal nature: "Next came the Queen in the sixty-fifth year of her age, as we were told, very majestic; her face oblong, fair, but wrinkled; her eyes small yet black and pleasant; her nose a little hooked; her lips narrow... she had in her ear two pearls, with very rich drops... her air was stately; her manner of speaking mild and obliging." This regal figure surely had her faults, but the last Tudor excelled at rising to challenges and emerging victorious.

Good Queen Bess, as she came to called, maintained a regal air until the day she died; a quote, from a letter by Paul Hentzen, reveals the aging queen's regal nature: "Next came the Queen in the sixty-fifth year of her age, as we were told, very majestic; her face oblong, fair, but wrinkled; her eyes small yet black and pleasant; her nose a little hooked; her lips narrow... she had in her ear two pearls, with very rich drops... her air was stately; her manner of speaking mild and obliging." This regal figure surely had her faults, but the last Tudor excelled at rising to challenges and emerging victorious.
dreams
my dreams came in snippets and they all seemed to have occurred at a camp like setting.
i dreamed about lisbeth, a woman i worked with- she is a competent worker and mother of 2 and is in social work school. but she doesnt have confidence in her skills and abilities. I dreamed of lisbeth and she was talking about something i was clear she could do but i was encouraging her in the dream
in the next scene i saw lucinda williams and was amazed that she was unsure how her talent compares to the other singer songwriters (mary chapin carpenter)- I was amazed at how humble and unsure she was of her talent
i woke up to feed the cat and went back to sleep and dreamed of the camp setting again. there were rooms. i knew i needed to make coffee so i was opening a cabinet after several attempts adn getting to making coffee. I knew i had to make it and couldnt quite get there. when i opened the cabinet, i saw small bugs that i wanted to shield from the eyesight of my aunt from florida. I started to take out the filters and coffee
i then asked about the new little cats. Someone had gotten a kitten and it had gotten into flour. the kittie was covered with flour. someone suggested that you give it bath and i saw the kittie with flour in its eyes. I was upset and desparate to get the cat some help. someone said let the kittie clean itself up. i saw its eye closed and one open. I looked at the cat and knew i wanted to help but didnt know how. someone said it will take care of itself, i then saw the kittie and her eye was open and the flour seemed to be disappearing and i woke up ...in a panic over the kittie

dream
i dreamed that i asked my ex-executive director for change and he gave me 70 dollars too much money. I contemplated keeping the extra money but i approached him and informed him that he gave me too much money and i asked him to make change. he couldnt see where he gave me too much and then when i addressed it again, he tried to "pay" me in goods (stuffed animals) i tried to explain to him that i was doing the "right" thing and ethically was trying to give him back what he gave me as an overage and he tried to repay in something that was worth less. I couldnt not use the stuffed animals nor did i want them, i wanted him to exchange the overage in cash not in goods and services
in the next scene of the dream, there were easter eggs, those plastic eggs that were available for everyone i worked with. They were being disseminated from a shoot, that looked like a mousehole. It seems taht all the sets that they put together were running out so they had to make more UP. Someone asked me if i got mine and i said i had not, so they handed me one. it contained small little toys that looked like little small pillows or spongebob pillows. there was nothing in there that i wanted. I didnt want the pillows or the jelly beans.
i then saw a separate area for the orthodox jewish kids who didnt celebrate easter, there was a dark door and they were waiting for something for them to exit out the door.
i woke up. My cat has figured out how to get me up my finding a space where she can sleep near my head and subsequently, start batting my head to get me up. even when i tried to go back to sleep, she kept battering at my head so i got up

saturday
i had to set my alarm clock to get up at 8am. I had an early volunteer orientation for the tribeca film festival. I showed up during the earlier session and met with the volunteer coordinator who looked over my application and seeing I am not working asked if i could stay for the CORE VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENT ORIENTATION.
Being a core volunteer gets you into a screening room, where the screening volunteers are assigned other duties in the theater but dont watch the movies. THey get vouchers that can be redeemed for movies after their shift. As a Core volunteer, you make sure hte mikes are working, designate reserved seats, intro the movie or moviemaker and conduct the Q&A session. you record any irregularities about the movie, sound, lights, projection, the audience and make sure that the inside of the theater is going as planned on time... after the movie, you make sure that the Q&A starts and get the audience out after the session...
ready the theater for the next one.. the shifts are about 6 hours or two movies.. they are scheduled in 3 hour blocks.
i got to select my days and hours and theater. I choose AMC 3rd ave because of easy access to the theater..
i start on wednesday at 3pm and finish at 1am
i dont come back til sunday 9am-530
and then monday 11-530
tuesday 11-530
wednesday 11-530
saturday 10-5
during that time i will see 12 films
inaddition i will earn vouchers for additional films or events.
i can go to any at night or the tribeca talks.
we were warned about the celebrities and asking for autographs or photos even if they are willing. we get teeshirts and laminants and i basically will see documentaries, international and domestic entries
i want to see the music related ones but they are not on my shift
so i will try to catch them...
i got a great score with Morgan Freeman's film
www.tribecafilmfestival.org
i plan to post movies and my responses...
and anything else that i will be doing related to the film fest
so after i went to orientation i went to chinatown and got some spinach and saw this familiar looking guy with platinum spiked hair..he was in shorts and in white girly looking sunglasses and was holding a baby...
i went by him and then turned around and tapped his arm and told him that i loved watching him and that he is like a rock star to me.. he asked me if i was gonna watch the finally...on sunday.. i said i will tape it and watch Desparate Housewives..
and told him i wished him luck
the Guy is GUY FIERI from foodnetwork's who will be the next foodnetwork
star?
i actually have been voting for Reggie his competition but i think Guy won..
i then walked around til it became so rainy that i came home to bake tofu and roast chickpeas and do my wash and clean the bathroom.
a productive day it is
